Food Tasting Session II at NUS The Scholar Restaurant

Remember our previous and first food tasting session here?

Well, dad wasn't particularly impressed with the food so this calls for round two at NUS The Scholar Restaurant!

In case you guys are wondering why we picked this restaurant (that probably sounds "ulu"), that's because we have tried this restaurant before and their shark fins soup and abalone promotion was really good and cheap, definitely worth more than your every cent!

Plus daddykins' super upbeat and proud of my elder sister finally graduating from NUS so he really wants to hold it at her alma mater and bask in the glory of some kind (actually I also don't quite get it too but anyway, what matter's most is that he's happy on his 60th birthday!)

Okay, I reckon enough boring introduction done! Here are some photos from that dinner!

Sis' bf (left) and Daddykins (right)!

 Sis with her shawl

Told you the "twist" genes flows in our family!

Daddy and Mommy!

The menu! Super oriental and ancient!

Sis and her bf, C. Sebastian, goofing around!

Me looking flawlessly fat as usual!
Unflattering photo angle too but nahs, it's okay!

...And the food arrived!

The shark fins soup!
The opportunity to taste it again came knocking when
the I-forgot-how-much promotion was launched again in Aug!

It wasn't up to expectations on that day and the broth tasted really salty (like as though the chef poured the entire bottle of oyster sauce down)
(to give a better verdict: it tasted more like gravy instead of soup!)

Hmm...this cabbage looking thing was actually the shark fin!
Look at how thick it was! Almost as thick as my arm!
However, it tasted strangely rubbery but I'm no shark fin connoisseur
so I'm not sure whether this was how shark fin was supposed to taste like!
Yummy Rating: 3.1/5

...And our next main lead arrived!

Braised Abalone with Beancurd, Mushroom and Broccoli!
Also part of the August cheap price promotion!
From left (anti-clockwise):
Braised Chicken Feet, Beancurd with Abalone on top, Broccoli and Shitake Mushroom!
However, it wasn't very satisfying as the abalone was really small!
Dad commented that it wasn't worth the price but I thought otherwise as the abalone still had that "mineral" taste and the sauce was delectably oyster-sauced flavored!
Yummy Rating: 3.4/5

The food on our table!
Oh yeah and we ordered fish and some spinach vegetables with salted eggs!
The fish (forgot the name of the dish) was really good and fresh!
It was so delicious, we devoured it to the bone!

The spinach vegetables with salted eggs!
Nearly puked this out because it tasted exactly like the spinach vegetables that my mom has cooked for the past 19 years until we told her we were really sick of it!
Why eat something that you can eat at home?
 Yummy Rating: 2.2/5

In case you were wondering why the sudden splurge on fancy restaurants like this (and just to set the record straight, my family isn't well-to-do at all!), it's because my sis has just joined the NUSS club (some NUS alumni club) and she was issued S$480 credit of F&B points hence the trip to redeem the points at the restaurant!

Oh yeah, our total bill for this dinner came up to a total of roughly S$240 cash/credit in F&B points!

My attempt at another cherry heart photo!

 Sis and her bf!
Made them stand in front of this painting!
Doesn't it look like they are at some art gallery?!

Sneaked in this photo with sis in the toilet!
Lol! Mom and Dad were wondering why we took ages in the washroom!

Aww...I look fat! As always!

Sis' OTD:
Bonitochico's/LoveBonito's Chiffon Pleated Mini in White!

 OTD:
Missywee's L Tessel Kimono
(previously blogged here about buying it)
Bonitochico's/LoveBonito's complimentary belt
(that came together with Sis' Pleated Chiffon Mini)
Nellyjoy/LoveandBravery's Pants!

P.S. Hope you guys enjoyed this blog entry!
See you guys next post on DBF Reunion 2010!
